LUMCON Speaker Series Kicks off at Terrebonne Parish Library Main Branch
January 25, 2012
On January 12, Nicole Cotten kicked off a series of talks at the Terrebonne Parish Public Library Main Branch with a “Getting to Know LUMCON” presentation. In her hour long talk, Cotten gave an overview of LUMCON, our mission and our various components, such as education, research, vessels and environmental monitoring as an introduction to the series, which will feature LUMCON research faculty discussing issues in marine science.
The idea for the series was spawned when Mr. Ross Mays, a research librarian at the Terrebonne Parish Main Branch, participated in one of the Wetland Warriors workshops held at LUMCON last year. Before the workshop was over, Mays and Cotten were already in the early planning stages of the series.
Assistant Professor Alex Kolker will give the next talk in the series on March 7, from 7:00 – 8:00 PM in the Distance Education room on the second floor of the Main Branch. He will discuss land loss and gain and how it affects coastal Louisiana.
Information on upcoming talks and other events will be announced as it becomes available.
