Adieu, Mr. Jerry

Adieu, Mr. Jerry

March 15, 2013

LUMCON bid a fond farewell to Gerald "Jerry" P. Walker, a 27-year employee of LUMCON on Thursday, March 7, 2013.  Mr. Jerry passed away one day short of visiting the doctor after his second knee replacement surgery to get a return to work after a too-long absence.  We were all looking forward to seeing him and his gentle, smiling nature once again in our hallways. Mr. Jerry has a special place in the hearts of the many LUMCON employees, students and visitors over the many years. We continue to have Ms. Katherine, his wife of 37 years, and his son, Jarad P. Walker, in our thoughts. Mr. Jerry came from a large and loving Cajun family, and leaves behind his son and wife, Lauren Walker, Robbie A. Lee and fiancee, Lori Grammer; grandchildren, Robbie Lee Jr., Dusty Lee, Gilbert Lee, Elissa Cheramie and Elyse Walker; siblings, Floria Walker and Bertha Walker Allemand; sister-in-law, Rena P. Walker; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alcide Walker Sr. and Evelyn Orgeron Walker; brothers, Stanley and Alcide Walker Jr.; and sisters, Clara Belle Walker Danos, Marjorie Walker Rogers and Rose Mae Walker Breaux.

The celebrant for the funeral mass on March 12 was Mr. Jerry’s godchild, the Rev. Dean Danos.
Nancy Rabalais spoke on behalf of his loving LUMCON family and noted that “very often, at a funeral, we wonder if we have told someone enough how much we love them. In Mr. Jerry’s case, he was told every day as he entered our offices or saw us in the hallway and always received a huge smile just to be with him.”

Words of sympathy may be sent to Mrs. Gerald Walker and family, 13462 W Park Ave, LaRose, LA 70373.
