This is a series of photographs of the marsh to the immediate north of the
LUMCON Marine Center in Cocodrie. The marsh is vegetated with smooth cordgrass, Spartina
alterniflora. In 2001 and 2002, scientists from throughout the state conducted studies to determine what makes the brown coloration that affected S.
alternaflora marsh in coastal Louisiana (See www.lacoast.gov/brownmarsh/index.htm).
