Programs for the general public

LUMCON operates from the DeFelice Marine Center in Cocodrie, Louisiana, which has many educational exhibits, including displays and aquaria focusing on Louisiana’s coastal processes.

  • The Marine Center is open for self-guided tours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm seven days a week (closed major holidays).

  • Organized groups may arrange a Field Trip to bring their adult members to LUMCON for a guided tour, or a longer trip including educational activities and field trips into the salt marshes, bays or island environments nearby.

  • As part of our public outreach effort, educators and researchers are available as guest speakers covering a variety of coastal and marine science topics.

  • When funding becomes available, LUMCON also offers adult public education workshops, such as Gulf Lagniappe and Wetland Warriors.

Groups interested in planning a field trip or scheduling a guest speaker for their organization should schedule early and contact Ms. Nicole Cotten (985) 851-2845 or ncotten@lumcon.edu.
