The DeFelice Marine Center is the primary facility of the LUMCON organization. The facility, located in Cocodrie, Louisiana, is surrounded by threatened marshlands and provides backdoor access to a complex gradational ecosystem as well as facilities to adequately perform university field trips. |
Professors are able to lead a number of students to hands-on experiences with use of the R/V Acadiana, various small boats, and canoes/kayaks. The marine center has a variety of sampling gear available to visiting educational groups along with educational classrooms and laboratories if an extended stay is preferred. The Marine Center also has a 97 seat auditorium for hosting larger groups for conferences or meetings.
The marine center can comfortably accommodate 68 visitors in the dormitory and is equipped with a large cafeteria that is staffed with local residents who prepare authentic cajun cuisine. A lounge equipped with a kitchen is also available if groups prefer to prepare their own meals.
A computer lab is also on hand to check email or print documents, and wireless access is available throughout the building for people with laptops. The library and collections room are also valuable resources that professors and students may want to use while visiting the facility.
