R/V Acadiana

The R/V Acadiana was designed and built by Breaux's Bay craft , Inc. in Loreauville, LA with funding for her construction provided by the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium. Home port is at the Defelice Marine Center in Cocodrie, LA.

The vessel is outfitted to support research and educational activities in Louisiana coastal bays and nearshore waters.

Length: 58 feet

Beam: 18 feet

Draft: 4 feet

Speed: 10 knots

Fuel capacity: 900 gallons

Endurance: 5 days

Complement:
    2 crew, 4 scientists
    (Can accomodate 25 scientists for day trips)

Propulsion:
    Twin Caterpillar 3406 main engines, 650 total horsepower

Electric power:
    One Northern Lights 22 kw 110/220 VAC single phase 60 cycle generator.

Communication:
    One SSB and 2 VHF radios, and one inshore and one offshore cellular phone.

Navigation:
    Magnetic compass, 2 GPS Chartplotter/sounders, and autopilot

Laboratories:
    One 144 sq.ft. with running sea water, 12VDC, 110/220 VAC

Winches:
    Trawl winch w/ 500 feet of 1/4 inch cable. One hydro winch w/ 500 feet of 3/16 cable and one electromechanical winch w/ 500 feet of 3/16 inch single conductor cable.
