The LUMCON Library is a member of (IAMSLIC) the International Association of Aquatic
and Marine Science Libraries and Information Centers, (SAIL) Southeast Affiliate
IAMSLIC Libraries, (SLA) Special Library Association,
(LOUIS) Louisiana Library Network and Information Consortium,
(LALINC) Louisiana and Academic Library Information Network Consortium,
and (LUC) LOUIS Users Conference. The Library offers OCLC online services,
Cambridge Scientific Abstracts, as well as other indices. LUMCON's library catalog is available electronically.
The collection and development of the library materials are aimed to reflect LUMCON's research programs.
The Library collection has approximately:
- 4,000 monographs
- 5,800 bound volumes
- 200 journal titles
- 128 current journal subscriptions
- 850 maps
- 35 atlases
- 3,600 government documents
- 3,200 reprints
Library materials are for in-house use only. Items may be checked out by LUMCON faculty, staff, and resident visitors, or through Interlibrary Loan Services. No journals or reference materials leave the library
without consent of the Librarian. Material on microfiche and microfilm are available for printing and Interlibrary Loan. The general public are welcome to utilize the library's resources and photocopy material within copyright provisions.
Interlibrary Loan Services are available to resident faculty, staff and visiting scientist. Bibliographic instruction is available by appointment.
The LUMCON Library is staffed the following hours:
Monday-Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. All LUMCON faculty, staff and resident visitors have open access to the library.
Please note: academic and general visitors are welcome during these hours.
However, please call (985.851.2875) to ensure the library will be available.
The Library is closed to the public on weekends, all state holidays, and when un-staffed.
